Camden street style #9: Denim jackets and ‘jungly' shorts
Tuesday, 6th May 2014

Marie Arnette, originally from the south of France, just got another ear piercing in Camden – which she said hurt rather a lot. The stylish 19-year-old waitress from Hackney is wearing shiny black shoes and flowery trousers from Urban Outfitters, a cropped black jumper and a jewelled bag from ASOS and a black, wide-brimmed hat from Religion. Marie says: “It is chic but comfortable, that's what I look for every day.”
Elle Daintree, 20, a French student at Queen Mary university, has gone for an eclectic outfit, inspired by the vintage 'Brick Lane style' of east London where she lives. She is wearing a denim jacket from the East End Thrift Store, a Clash T-shirt, Topshop jeans and Emerica shoes, accessorised with "too many" piercings. Elle says there are elements of "punk" and "skater" in her look, as she is no stranger to the skatepark.
Harry Britain, a make-up artist from Kew, turned 22 today and is in Camden with a friend for surprise birthday treats. He is wearing a vintage Levi's jacket – though he says he hates the word vintage "so much" – Topshop maternity trousers, some Underground winklepicker shoes, along with a Vivienne Westwood elephant top. He has put his artistic skill to good use and added some eyeliner flicks. As for his fashion choices, Harry said the bits and pieces are “hideous so other people wouldn't wear them, but it all looks good when it's together”.
Ana Lorido, 29, originally from Spain, just moved to South Kensington and works for Abercrombie and Fitch. Her black pointy boots, warm pink coat and leggings are all from Topshop, her metallic silver jumper is from Zara, and she carries a big Modalu bag. Ana chose the fluffy jacket, not only for the style factor, but also to keep the cold at bay, as she said: “I can't believe it's already May, it's so chilly!”
Kirsty McEwan, 18, a bartender from Northampton, is in town for a friend's 18th birthday. She is wearing a flowery playsuit, along with a hoody from Primark, a Topshop leather jacket, and a pair of Converse that she bought on eBay. But Kirsty doesn't see herself as one of Camden's most stylish… she describes her style as "terrible!"
Alex Cawkwell, 26, who makes clothing and does screen-printing, is currently doing a little bit of promoting in Camden Town. He is wearing white karate trousers underneath an old pair of "jungly, snakey kind of shorts" which are "very loved but in need of a little repairing" – though he claims "each rip is an adventure". Alex has matched the trouser-combo with boxing shoes, as he likes the mobility, a customised glow in the dark "misfit skull" T-shirt, a patterned hoody, a coat given him to by a buddy, and a patterned scarf tied around his head – all in all, a collection of clothes from various charity shops that he has bleached, dyed and screen-printed for a "trippy" effect.
